> dijitul hosts WooCommerce shops in the UK on managed Plesk hosting for £1 a day + VAT. We move your WordPress shop for you, run it on PHP 8.3 or newer, replace WP-Cron with a real server cron so orders and emails process on time, and include daily backups, SSL and Cloudflare DNS.

## Key facts

- WooCommerce recommends PHP 8.3 or greater, MySQL 8.0+ or MariaDB 10.6+, and HTTPS
- WooCommerce recommends a WordPress memory limit of 256MB or more
- WooCommerce uses Action Scheduler for background jobs such as subscription renewals and webhooks
- Running a real server cron instead of WP-Cron stops scheduled actions piling up on quiet sites
- High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) moves orders into dedicated database tables
- Managed WooCommerce hosting from dijitul is £1 a day + VAT, migration included

## WooCommerce server requirements

WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin, so it inherits WordPress's needs and adds its own. WooCommerce currently recommends:

- **PHP 8.3 or newer**
- **MySQL 8.0+** or **MariaDB 10.6+**
- A WordPress **memory limit of 256MB** or more (WP_MEMORY_LIMIT in wp-config.php)
- HTTPS across the whole site
- The cURL, mbstring, intl, gd or imagick, and zip PHP extensions

On dijitul hosting these are the defaults. If your shop also needs a general WordPress setup, see WordPress hosting.

## Why WP-Cron causes WooCommerce problems

WordPress runs scheduled tasks when someone visits the site. WooCommerce queues a lot of work through **Action Scheduler**: subscription renewals, webhooks, stock syncs, abandoned basket emails, analytics imports. On a quiet shop, nothing triggers the queue, so jobs pile up. On a busy one, every visitor can kick off background work and slow pages down.

We disable the visitor-triggered WP-Cron and run it from a real server cron every few minutes. If you see thousands of pending actions under WooCommerce, Status, Scheduled Actions, this is usually the cure.

## Keeping a WooCommerce shop fast

- **Turn on HPOS** (High-Performance Order Storage). New stores have it by default; older stores can sync and switch in WooCommerce settings. It takes orders out of the crowded posts table.
- **Don't page-cache the basket, checkout or my account pages.** Good caching plugins exclude them automatically, but check.
- **Watch plugin count.** Each extension adds database queries; a shop with 60 plugins will never be quick.
- **Clear old transients and expired sessions** from the database.
- Use object caching with Redis on bigger catalogues.

## Payments, PCI and updates

The official WooCommerce Stripe and PayPal Payments plugins use the provider's secure fields, so card numbers never pass through your WordPress server. That keeps your PCI work small and supports 3D Secure 2 for UK cards.

The bigger risk on WooCommerce is out-of-date plugins. Many hacked shops were running an old version of a plugin with a published vulnerability. We keep the server patched; if you'd like us to look after WordPress and plugin updates too, see WordPress maintenance.

## Moving your WooCommerce shop to dijitul

We copy the site and database, run a proper search and replace for the domain (WooCommerce stores serialised data, so a simple find and replace breaks it), test checkout and payment webhooks, then switch DNS. Order emails are checked so they don't land in spam.

It's all part of Complete Hosting at £1 a day + VAT. Very busy shops with big sale peaks may suit high-traffic hosting, which we quote.

## FAQs

### What is the best WooCommerce hosting in the UK for a small shop?

For a small UK shop, look for managed hosting with PHP 8.3, daily backups, SSL, a real server cron and UK support. dijitul offers this for £1 a day + VAT, including moving your WooCommerce shop, Cloudflare DNS and a domain renewal each year, from a UK company trading since 2006.

### What PHP version should I use for WooCommerce?

WooCommerce recommends PHP 8.3 or newer. It still works on PHP 7.4, but that version is out of support from the PHP project and can expose your shop to security risks. Check your plugins and theme are compatible before you switch, ideally on a staging copy.

### Why are my WooCommerce scheduled actions stuck as pending?

WooCommerce's Action Scheduler relies on WP-Cron, which only runs when someone visits the site. On quiet shops jobs build up. Disabling WP-Cron and running it from a real server cron every few minutes usually clears the backlog. dijitul sets this up as standard.

### How much memory does WooCommerce need?

WooCommerce recommends a WordPress memory limit of 256MB or more, set with WP_MEMORY_LIMIT in wp-config.php, and a PHP memory_limit at least that high. Shops with large imports, page builders or many extensions may need more. dijitul sets sensible limits per site on its managed servers.

### Should I turn on HPOS in WooCommerce?

Usually yes. High-Performance Order Storage stores orders in their own tables, which is faster and more reliable than the old posts table. New stores use it by default. Check your extensions are compatible, run the sync tool, then switch it on in WooCommerce settings.
