Two layers of WordPress maintenance
It helps to separate two jobs that people lump together:
- The server layer: operating system, web server, PHP, MySQL or MariaDB, firewall, SSL and backups. On dijitul Complete Hosting this is our job and it's included.
- The WordPress layer: core, plugins, themes and content. You can manage this yourself with the tools we provide, or ask dijitul's agency team to look after it for you.
Being clear about this avoids the classic problem where everyone assumes someone else is updating the plugins.

A sensible update routine
- Check what needs updating, and read changelogs for major plugin versions.

- Roll back if anything breaks, then investigate.

What does WordPress maintenance include?

My WordPress site broke after an update. What should I do?
Restore the backup taken before the update, or disable the plugin that caused it by renaming its folder via SFTP or the file manager. On dijitul hosting, our UK team can restore the previous daily backup for you.
Is it safe to run an old version of WordPress?
Not for long. Old WordPress versions and plugins have known vulnerabilities that bots scan for. If you can't update straight away, add a web application firewall and plan the update. dijitul helps bring neglected WordPress sites up to date.
