What you get with WordPress on dijitul

WordPress powers a huge share of small-business websites, and most of the problems people have with it are really hosting problems: slow pages, failed updates, missed scheduled posts and no backup when something goes wrong. Our plan is built to take those off your plate.

  • Plesk WP Toolkit in your own control panel, so you can see every WordPress site, its version and its plugins on one screen.
  • Staging copies so a theme change or big plugin update can be tested before it touches the live site.
  • Security hardening such as blocking PHP execution in uploads, protecting wp-config.php and turning off XML-RPC if you don't need it.
  • Per-site PHP settings including memory_limit and upload_max_filesize, so page builders and big media uploads don't fail.

Speed: what actually makes WordPress fast

Most slow WordPress sites suffer from the same few things: too many plugins, huge uncompressed images, an old PHP version and no caching. We deal with the hosting side:

  • Current PHP 8.x with OPcache, which runs WordPress code noticeably faster than PHP 7.
  • Cloudflare caching static files such as images, CSS and JavaScript closer to your visitors.
  • A real cron job in place of WP-Cron, so background tasks don't run on visitors' page loads.
  • A tidy database, with old revisions and expired transients cleared if they've built up.

If the site is still slow after that, the cause is usually the theme or a plugin, and we'll tell you which one.

Moving your WordPress site to us

We copy the files and database, update the site address if it changes, check permalinks, forms and email sending, and test everything on a temporary address before switching DNS. Contact form emails are a common casualty of a move, so we check they arrive. Read about our website migration process.

WooCommerce shops move the same way, with extra care around orders placed during the switch. See WooCommerce hosting.

Older WordPress sites

Plenty of WordPress sites are stuck on a theme that stopped being updated in 2017 or a plugin that won't run on PHP 8. We can host them on an older PHP version in isolation while you decide what to do, then update or replace the parts that are holding the site back. See old website hosting for how we handle older sites safely.

Who updates WordPress itself?

We look after the server: the operating system, PHP, the web server and security. WordPress core, plugins and themes are part of your website. You can update them yourself, set automatic updates in WP Toolkit, or hand the whole job to us with WordPress maintenance. Either way, daily backups mean a bad update can be rolled back. Making sure WordPress emails arrive

A surprising number of WordPress complaints are really email problems: contact form messages that never turn up, or WooCommerce receipts landing in spam. By default WordPress sends mail through PHP's mail() function with nothing to prove it's genuine, and modern inboxes are suspicious of that.

Because we manage your DNS in Cloudflare, we can set the records that matter:

  • SPF, listing which servers may send mail for your domain
  • DKIM, signing each message so it can't be forged
  • DMARC, telling inboxes what to do with mail that fails those checks

Where it helps, we also set WordPress to send through an authenticated SMTP mailbox rather than mail(). The result is form enquiries in your inbox, not your spam folder. See Cloudflare DNS management for more.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best WordPress hosting in the UK for a small business?

Look for UK support, daily backups, free SSL, current PHP and someone who will move your site for you. dijitul Complete Hosting includes all of these on Plesk with WP Toolkit and Cloudflare, plus a domain renewal each year, for £1 a day + VAT. It's set and forget, run by a UK company trading since 2006.

Do you move my WordPress site for free?

Yes. Migration is included in dijitul Complete Hosting. We copy your files and database, test the site on a temporary address, check forms and email, and then switch your DNS. Your site stays live on the old host until the new one is ready.

What PHP version should my WordPress site use?

WordPress.org recommends PHP 8.3 or newer. Older themes and plugins may break on PHP 8, so test on a staging copy first. On dijitul hosting you can choose the PHP version per site in Plesk, and we can keep an older version running in isolation while incompatible plugins are replaced.

Why are my WordPress scheduled posts not publishing?

WordPress uses WP-Cron, which only runs when someone visits the site. On quiet sites, scheduled posts and emails get missed. The fix is to disable WP-Cron in wp-config.php and run wp-cron.php from a real server cron job every few minutes. dijitul can set this up in Plesk for you.

Is managed WordPress hosting worth it?

If you don't want to think about servers, backups and security, yes. Managed hosting means someone else keeps the server patched, monitors it and can restore your site when something goes wrong. dijitul's managed WordPress hosting costs £1 a day + VAT and includes migration, daily backups and UK support.

Can I host more than one WordPress site?

Each dijitul Complete Hosting plan covers one website, at £1 a day + VAT. A second WordPress site needs its own plan. If you run many sites, such as an agency portfolio, a multi-site setup on a managed VPS may be better value, and that is quoted.
